Another good day on the river today. The water is barely a few inches deep in places but that is not stopping the fish taking full advantage of the plentiful food, clouds of sedge, gnat and the ubiquitous Caenis before retreating to the deeper pools.
I had fears earlier in the year that the rivers would struggle to recover from the dreadful winter and spring which saw extended periods of freezing conditions and frequent floods that moved physical structures and gravel beds. I'm pleased to say my fears were unfounded. The rivers are looking really good, crystal clear with plenty of Ranunculus offering all important cover.
