After a couple of hectic weeks I decided yesterday to have some 'me time'. It was another baking hot day and a few hours stood in a cold river appealed to me. I took myself off for an afternoon on the Dee and one of the tributaries. My expectations were not high as fishing has been tough recently. However, my expectations were surpassed. Even though there was little insect life visible I tried a dry to see if I could encourage a fish up to the surface, but had no joy. However a tungsten headed nymph on the point and a spider on a dropper soon bought results. With both flies picking up fish.
The final bag was 6 or 7 brownies and 3 grayling. With all the fish safely returned unharmed to the fight another day.
Fishing is a funny old sport. on days I've expected to do well I've blanked and on others, such as this one, when I'm not expecting to catch I have a great day. That's why I love fishing, every day is different!
